In the early 1930's, American writer Ernest Hemingway lived here for a few years. In room 511 he wrote the first chapter of 'For Whom the Bell Tolls', as he found the hotel 'a good place to write'. Nowadayas, the room the writer keeps some of his belongings and the Plaza de Armas restaurant serves his favorite dishes. Besides, the hotel has a wonderful rooftop bar-restaurant that has exquisite grilled food and the best of the views.
